My primary interest is Adult Neuro and I am certified in NDT of Adults.  I have extensive background in Brain Injury Rehab and 17 years experience completing driving assessments for adults with CVA, TBI, and Dementia.

I am committed to pursuing opportunities which assure that the people living in the Spokane area receive the highest quality of health care in general and Occupational Therapy specifically.

Janis Battan:  President

I have had the pleasure of working as an Occupational Therapist for 34 years. Graduating in Occupational Therapy at the University of Washington, I returned to my home town, Spokane to begin my career.  My first job was at Sacred Heart Medical Center where I provided O.T. services in acute care, outpatient and psychiatric arenas. From 1978 to1994 I served as the Chief Occupational Therapist at Sacred Heart.  From 1994 to 2000 I had the opportunities to serve as Director of  Outpatient Therapies and then as Program Director for Industrial Rehab and Behavioral Health services at St. Luke’s Rehab Institute. In 2000 I received a Masters in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. My current position is as an OT at Regency @ Northpointe - an extended care facility with sub acute rehab and outpatient services.  I have had the opportunity of serving on the WOTA Executive Board since 2006 and currently hold the position of Secretary.

I am committed to the continued growth, development and support of Occupational Therapists of the Inland Northwest.

Outside of my professional life, I am a proud mom of two grown sons. I enjoy camping, boating, cross country skiing, jewelry making and photography.

Katy Frankenfield:  Continuing Education Chair

For the last 22 years I have worked in a variety of settings from skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, schools and higher education.  In addition to teaching both a “live” and on-line version of” Introduction to Occupational Therapy, I have been the academic fieldwork coordinator for EWU for the last four years but just can’t give up the kiddos!  I currently provide OT services once/week at Grand Coulee Dam School District.

I completed my bachelors in occupational therapy from the University of Washington in 1986 and finished my masters in adult education from Eastern Washington University in the winter of 2008.

My career goal is to always pursue the occupation in occupational therapy!

I enjoy hiking, gardening, piano and most of all FAMILY

Susie LaBarre:  Secretary / Membership Chair

I received my BS at the University of North Dakota in 1997.  I also hold a BA in Psychology from University of Puget Sound 1992.

I have 11 years of experience in Pediatrics in outpatient clinic, school settings and private therapy.  Presently, I work a few days for Freeman School District when not at home with my two young boys.  Once a month I travel to Wellpinit Indian Reservation’s Health and Human Services to do Birth to Three screens.

My areas of interests in occupational therapy are Sensory Processing, Early Intervention, Child/Parent mental health and Handwriting.  I enjoy helping families with children with special needs through education, consultation, individual therapy, and knowledge sharing.

When not working, in or outside the home, I enjoy running, gardening, going for walks/hikes, camping and spending time with family and friends.  I have loved horses from afar, and now have an opportunity to spend time with them while volunteering for Spokane’s Free Rein Therapeutic Riding Program.

Greg Wintz:  Task Force Member

I began my practice in Spokane and have worked as clinician, educator, and researcher in occupational therapy in the Northwest for over 20 years.  As a student, I interned at Eastern State Hospital and then Sacred Heart, where, as a practicing OT, I worked in chronic pain and rehabilitation.  For seven years, I served as Director of Rehabilitation at Shriners’ Hospital in Spokane as well as taught as adjunct faculty at Eastern Washington University’s Physical Therapy Program.  At Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, I developed the Occupational Therapy Program and served as professor and Program Director there for seven years. During my tenure at both ISU and EWU, I taught in the areas of OT service delivery, leadership and management, assistive technology, ergonomics, home modifications, and research.

I graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a Masters in Occupational Therapy in 1986 and completed my Ph.D. from University of Idaho in 2006  in Adult Education with an emphasis on teaching and learning in higher education, program evaluation, and qualitative research at the University of Idaho.  Particularly interesting research topics include finding new and inventive ways of documenting the efficacy of occupational therapy services and understanding how daily life activities are integral to personal growth and quality of life.

Patty Wright:  Member at Large

An Occupational Therapist for 25 years, I graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada in 1983.  Initially I worked in general outpatient rehabilitation, working with a variety of diagnoses including rheumatic diseases, brain injuries and orthopedic injuries. In 1989 I began specializing in upper extremity rehab, and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 1991.

I am currently working at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute as a hand therapist and industrial rehabilitation specialist.  As one of my “hats” I am involved with the only CARF accredited Pain Rehabilitation Clinic on the east side of Washington state, treating injured workers with chronic pain. I love the interdisciplinary approach and the improvements in function we often see despite long-term injuries.

Outside the clinic, I love camping, hiking, art, gardening, travel and spending time with my family. I have come back to my roots as a volunteer and board member with Free Rein Therapeutic Riding.  It was as a teenage volunteer with a similar group in Canada that I developed an interest in activity based therapy.

Although Spokane has been home to me for only the past 3 years, I feel a connection to the OT community here and have a desire to strengthen that community through assisting with education and communication.

Lila Zander:  Member At Large

I graduated from College Misericordia, located in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 2004. There I received a Masters in Occupational Therapy and a Bachelors in Psychology. I moved out to Spokane, WA that fall and I have worked in home based pediatric services for The Washington Elk's Therapy Program for Children for the past four years. I also work for Children FIRST, which is a birth to three center. I am currently taking the NDT course, for my certification.

I love children and enjoy learning from them every day. When I am not working you can find me on the slopes in the winter time and in the water, boating and camping in the summer.
